The Meaning of Boobies

Don't tell me you've never pondered the meaning of breasts? Yes, we all appreciate the biological role of boobs. But, during the 70+ years when women aren't bearing children, it's not like the boobies shrink completely or retreat and hibernate until the next birth. Are breasts simply God's gift to men? Some clever researcher decided to investigate and write a paper on the topic. I hope those of you desperately searching for a thesis topic find some inspiration here. This article, "Why Women Have Breasts" may not help you understand women better, but hopefully you'll develop a greater respect and admiration for boobs and the fabulous creatures that grow them. So, without further ado. . .

Why Women Have Breasts
Many people may suppose that the question of the title is a stupid one, given that the answer is so obvious: women have breasts for feeding babies. In fact, the question is a good one, because it is a mystery why the vast majority of women has breasts. Most women are, at this moment, not lactating, and yet they have breasts. If breasts were merely for feeding babies, then most women would not have them. They would develop them only during pregnancy, and would lose them again when they stopped breast-feeding. Humans are unique in the animal world, in that they develop breasts at puberty and retain them into old age, whether or not they ever get pregnant. This requires an explanation.

A heifer develops an udder when it is time to produce milk for feeding her calf. Once the calf has stopped feeding, the heifer (now a "cow") dries up and the udder disappears. Growing an udder, like any body tissue, is a cost. It takes nutrients to grow and maintain the udder, and the udder itself is a hindrance to quick movement. Indeed, prominent udders are not necessarily needed at all. Seals manage to feed milk to their young without any such protuberances which would spoil their hydrodynamic form. A woman pays a cost in nutrition and agility by growing breasts when she doesn’t need them. If there is a cost, then there must be a benefit to explain why this human trait has evolved. Given that the their time they spend in camps, in the presence of fire, and very few animals will venture there. Human females, therefore, paid a much smaller price for developing udders than other animals, during their evolution. Very few women in the Pleistocene of child-bearing age would have been lost to predators. They were free to be hampered by non-lactating breasts.

In other words, division of labour made nulliparous breasts possible. Our ancestral fathers behaved like carnivores, and needed to be able to run and jump freely to hunt, and our ancestral mothers behaved more like herbivores, harvesting in groups. A nullipara is a female who has not yet borne children. It is an interesting quirk of our culture that we all know the word virgin, but few know nullipara. The above explains how it could have been possible for non-lactating breasts to evolve, but it still falls a long way short of saying why they actually did evolve. . .

Yeah, God forbid you have to rub those two brain cells together and actually think about something you just react to.
Flame away. I'll be a million url's away by then.

I read it :)

Posted by: Anoy at April 20, 2006 11:25 AM

That doesn't need to be that long.

Women have breasts for lactating. If you think this is wrong because women aren't always lactating, but always have breasts, you don't know shit about biology.

Men generally find bigger breasts attractive because men who liked big tits in the past had children (with the big-tit-loving genes) who were more likely to survive. Probably because they didn't starve, with the huge tits full of milk and all.

Doesn't take fifty thousand words to say that.

PS. Everyone hates long-winded, under-educated articles, so stop writing them.

Posted by: DoItAgain at April 20, 2006 12:08 PM

Apparently you didn't read the article.

If your going to claim an article is "under-educated" do yourself the favor of reading it first or do you like making yourself look "under-educated"?

have got to find boobies NOW booobieeeeeess big booooobieeees

Posted by: errrrr at April 20, 2006 05:18 PM

I read it, i think it's very well written. Perhaps it is long, but all of you who say you think it's stupid JUST because it's long, are douchebags.

Posted by: felix at April 20, 2006 07:42 PM

Good article. I can't truthfully state that i have read it all, but enough to get the feel of the read.

On a more immature note: Boobies... BOOYA!

Posted by: Opperator at April 20, 2006 08:02 PM

Speaking as a Gay man, I still find Boobs fascinating, all my gay friends are intrigued by breasts as well.. i dunno why. Mind you, i dont want to fell them in a sexual situation, but i'm interested in them in that wierd curiosity kind of way...

Posted by: Zach at April 20, 2006 09:27 PM

the layout of the text in this blog sucks. boobs are cool. that is all.

Posted by: at April 20, 2006 10:24 PM

So yeah I didn't read it all because of it being 4-20 (you know... puff puff) and it bein 11:48 so I gotta get a move on puff puff so basically though... I just wanted to say I like big boobies and small boobies alike! I think boobies attract men because they are round not because of size. We like houses with rounded corners because they don't hurt so much, but also because round-ness makes it feel more costly. I mean pointy boobies don't "hurt us" but our eyes burn when we see them because they aren't ROUND! ... see? no? comments? Boobs rock because they are round. Pointy boobs aren't so cool and curse the day I see a square boob (some weird person is going to get a cube for an implant...)... well I'm going to use this for a comedy routine so if you hear this later on this was my inspiration and you guys in this community of board posters rock! sorry for taking so long but boobies are important and must be discussed in depth! YAY BOOBIES!

Why so long LOL MEN HATE READING LONG ARTICLES ! Impossible to sit there and read it all
i didnt read it all just the parts that said breasts but girls do rule

Posted by: russ at April 21, 2006 04:40 AM

i took the effort to read the article and i gotta tell you it describes what i've been pondering. good article.

my girlfriend has a great pair AND she's intelligent, that's hard to knock.

was anybody turned on by the mutant in total recall with 3 breasts? i wasn't.

Posted by: impressed at April 21, 2006 05:17 AM

Whilst a long article, very little was repeated or unneccissary. A thourough dissection if a little self-indulgent to the writer concerning evolutionary arguments. But hey, evolution isn't a precise science so an article which proposes much is a good thing.

To the twits who bagged the article length before reading it - grow up. Good to see the hasty, short-attention spans of males from our evolutionary past are still persevering. Evolve.

Otherwise, as a chick, it's interesting to get a couple of idea s on where these things came from... *poke*

Posted by: scientia at April 21, 2006 07:53 AM

I bet SCIENTIA has nice boobies.

Posted by: boobman at April 21, 2006 12:41 PM

The article is well well concieved, if lacking in proper grammar in some parts but that is not at all important.

Your theory seems rock solid and its obvious you've thought out every angle. A very interesting read.

Posted by: Ryk at April 21, 2006 12:54 PM

Hmm. I didn't mind the length of it, I found it interesting enough to carry on reading, although I did find that some points were repeated. I've never really pondered the origins of breasts to that much depth but found I agree with some points, believing that they are indeed plausible, if not possible, but the deception ideas I'm not so sure on. Anyway, interesting read.

Why do men like to suck a women's breast so much?

Posted by: J at April 21, 2006 09:42 PM

bleah bleah bleah i love to suck the nipple off my girls boobs no matter what they are there for!

Posted by: mike at April 21, 2006 09:44 PM

Without pictures this post is completely useless.

Posted by: james at April 22, 2006 05:48 AM

i like to suck on women's breasts because they are soft to the touch and taste good. a great 0 calorie snack for anytime during the day.

on another note, if you're going to write that the article is poorly written, try making sure that you're spelling things correctly. "artical" and "necissarily?" ...you've got to be fuckin' with me.

Posted by: andrew at April 22, 2006 05:52 AM

Excellent article. To those who didn't read it and just wrote 'its too long to read!', why the fuck did you post? In the future refrain from displaying your stupidity so openly, and will just assume your an idiot, ok?

Posted by: guy at April 22, 2006 10:39 AM

Very well written article, good references, and definetly plausable ideas, good work putting it all together, and thanks.

Posted by: Malchia at April 22, 2006 05:02 PM

Anyone who has posted that this is "uneducated" is a complete dumbshit. Most people who have read this are probably fat old men or ignorant teenage horndogs who clicked just because they saw one word, "boobies". If you dont like it, dont read it. Not every piece of literature has to be interesting, even if it is about boobs.

Posted by: Spodi at April 22, 2006 07:50 PM

Speaking as a reasonably intelligent teenage horndog who just clicked because I saw the word "boobs," I took the effort to read through the article. It was fairly interesting, and a very succinct theory, even if the author does come out somewhat holier-than-thou. Slightly too much repetition with a few facts.
All in all, it's the best hypothesis on why women evolved breats I've ever read.

Posted by: B at April 22, 2006 11:10 PM

Alright, so this explains mans urge for breasts. Now explain to me Womans(Lesbian) urge for Breastage?

Posted by: Zodiac at April 23, 2006 05:41 AM

Pretty interesting, I spotted the link and had to click as being a 24 year old guy I enjoy the wonders of breasts. I will ponder these facts a little longer.

Posted by: Keeran at April 23, 2006 07:15 AM

Men like breasts because they are different. How often does a man get to feel breasts? Most men don't have breasts. Most men don't have the same neck as a woman, or the same hips, or the same ass.

It's a simple question of curiosity. Gay men can still be curious of the female breast, but they don't have to be aroused by it. Never the less, they are curious, and curiosity drives sexuality when coupled with culture and religion.

All that horseshit about evolution didn't have to be in there. I believe God made woman to be man's companion. Man feels aroused by woman because of the relationship, and I believe that the relationship can be a very spiritual one. This spiritual relationship is what makes humans and animals different.

This article has some very interesting points that I can agree with fully. The person who wrote this should consider submitting it into the scientific research Nobel peace prize! LOL

Posted by: Zeruel at April 23, 2006 10:56 PM

I enjoyed the article in all its length.

Posted by: Me at April 24, 2006 12:36 AM

Thanks for an excellent article. Not to long at all, no boring reinteration. I have saved this. To those that don't like the evolutionary logic, I must say that without that, it would have been only a few words long. I really liked the part about the link between hidden ovulation and permenant breasts coming about in tandem. A new idea for me. Also the theory how men flipped from finding full breasts repulsive to sexy is innovative thinking. I don't know if you are right, but tits to you grand author, well worth the read to find new ideas.
I found the gay fellows comment on how he liked tits usefull. As I was reading, I wondered if gay males had perhaps not gotten the "flipped" gene, and thus may be turned off by woman with breasts. Great new thinking, thanks for making the effort. Get some pictures and submit this to playboy!

Posted by: Matt at April 24, 2006 01:18 AM

You could easily have summed this up into one paragraph instead of repeating the same things over and over. I skipped 5 paragraphs ahead of where I was and saw the same thing being written but by a different source.

Boobs are just innately nice man, like art. It's nice to grab em, and there is the cleavage etc. It's just a side-effect of our intelligence-evolution, which yeah means that big boobs will dissappear again after we evolve more.
You can get a good hold of fat boobs aswell, which helps in rape Oo.

Posted by: Remy at April 24, 2006 05:24 PM

Posted by: Patrick J. at April 27, 2006 11:10 PM

I love boobs. I read the article and it was an interesting point of view. But i'm a firm believer in God's grand design of man. We are all a unique work of art. Not an accident caused by evolution. BOOBS rock. My wife's got two full Breasts that i love to play with and suck and of course They are also for lactation, did anyone actually consider the fact that breasts might have not one but more than one functions?

Posted by: jug at May 2, 2006 08:44 AM

ok...teenager that is taking the time to read through just about everything here to get to understand women better. the article was long, but well worth it. seeing the other posts from these dips complaining about it being too long can just read my long ass post and be content. they disgrace my male gender and make girls think that we all are rude and perverted, but we're not all so lame as that. i have a higher respect for females and such, thus the reason why i bothered putting up this post in the first place. anyways, good article, later.
